Managing Quarantine and the Covid-19 Pandemic
Covid-19 is changing how we live in the short term and long term with social distancing, more remote work environments, and concerns about health. As a result, anxiety can be at an all time high. While it is normal to feel stress and anxiety during these challenging and unprecedented times, it is vital to make sure it doesn’t consume us or take over our ability to live fulfilling lives.
We probably all feel a bit limited at the moment. On pause until “normal” life can resume. But how can we make the most of our time pausing? Use some time each day to practice mindfulness and meditation. Find a few minutes for self-care: something that feels calming, brings you joy, or replenishes your spirit. Take a walk and notice the sounds and sights of nature.
This time can be especially difficult for those with children who also feel stressed, out of their routines, and cooped up. Be honest with your kids about what is going on. Not in an alarmist way, but a way that names and addresses the emotions they may be feeling or picking up on from you. Do the best you can to model caring for yourself, so your children can join in and learn these skills too. Try to establish a routine and don’t be too hard on yourself if you need to use tv, games, or other technology to keep you all sane. We are all just trying to do the best we can and that is enough.
Remember, this will not last forever. But right now, let’s all take it just one day at a time.
